Wendy's Open Mic Night
was created when Java Joe had a night to fill. Monday, being a slow music night
at most clubs, was the best choice of the week. We talked about it for a few
months, then decided to give it a try. Not having much time in front of a crowd,
I was terrified about getting in front of people and playing guitar. Why you
ask? I thought no one was going to come out to the show, and I would have to
spend a lot of time playing songs. Which, at that time, I knew none.
We had our first show on July 1, 1996. The first few weeks were slow, but, after
the 3rd week, people started coming out to play. Lots of people. So many, we
had to start turning them away after the 6th week. It always makes me sad to
see someone, who drove all the way from El Cajon, have to leave and not perform.
Since then, we have tried Open Mic Night on other nights with limited success.
However, Monday had always been the bread winner. I just want to thank all the
performers and fans who make a Wendy's Open Mic Night at Java Joe's in Ocean
Beach CA a success.
Wendy.
