My Idea Of the 1999 State of the Union Address
|
Thank you Mr. Chairman and Mr. Speaker. I've come here tonight to uphold my constitutional duty to report on the state of the union. First I'd like to thank my wife Hillary and my daughter Chelsea for their support in these last few difficult years. We are in unprecedented times in our nations history. Unemployment that is as low as it is been in a generation, Economic prosperity that is unrivaled in any peace or war time situation. Communications, with 38% of the homes in America on the internet and e-mail we as a society are communicating more than we have since World War II.. But there are some communication problems we need to overcome. Racial diversity has come further in that last 40 years that in the last 400. But our schools, black children and white segregate themselves in the lunch room and on the play ground. This has got to change. As on the playground in congress communication and understanding needs to improve. On both sides of the isle political monopartisianship has divided our country. The people of America, are laughing more at the congress than they are laughing at me. As an institution your division is dividing our country. I predict that if you continue on the course that you are on now, in the year 2000 election both houses of congress will be from the democratic party. Though I would not mind that because whether sooner or later come the end of January 2001 I will not be your president. We as a country have sang so many times, Oh beautiful for spacious skies for amber fields of grain, for purple mountains majesty above the fruited plain America, and Americans have done more to make this country what it is. It is not the government or what actions the Senate may take in regards to my future as a result of my actions that makes us a great nation. It is the people of America who make America what it is. For example in the gallery tonight we he a special guest. Sammy Lambert please stand up. Sammy, you have done so much to foster goodwill and friendliness, you are a shining example for humanity to see. The world needs more people like sammy Lambert. As I address you tonight I can't leave you with out addressing the dress. If it wasn't for the dress we could have denied it all and we'd all be fine. But like I said in 1991 'I didn't inhale' but this time I wish I could have said the same about my DNA sample. But besides all that America is a great country and I thank you for your support. So call, write and e-mail you senators except the Americians in Puerto Rico and Guam and tell the to not vote to convict. Good night, and God bless you and god bless America. |
