Hatcliffe Extension by the Order
of the Dominican Sisters
The
Order of the Dominican Sisters has moved its headquarters from Germany to
Harare, Zimbabwe. They are active in
relief work in the area of the "Hatcliffe Extension".
This is
an encampment presently providing a home to about 40,000 of the poorest in
Harare. No formal school exists for the
10,000 children within this camp and local parents are presently interested in
hiring teachers to provide primary education for these children.
There
are five specific development projects that have been identified by the
community:
· Construction of a local school (requiring an investment of
US$20,000)
and to provide for sources of income for inhabitants of the
encampment:
· Paraffin sale project (requiring an investment of: US$ 2,000);
· Tie and dye operation (requiring an investment of: US$ 3,000);
· Soap making and chemical manufacture (requiring an investment
of: US$ 2,200);
· Grocery store (requiring an investment of: US$ 5,500).
Contact
