Dr. Avakoff's training and expertise enable him to give accurate, detailed, and fair evaluations of
medical-legal matters ranging from Plastic Surgery medical malpractice to physician peer review.
Dr. Avakoff has consulted with Plaintiffs' attorneys as well as with Defendants' attorneys. His
training in Plastic Surgery makes him well qualified to render opinions on plastic surgical cases.
And his training in the law is helpful in evaluating legal issues which may become important. He has represented physicians in peer review matters before hospital medical staffs, and even the
California Medical Board. Due to the nature of this work, Dr. Avakoff
only works with attorneys and physicians. Patients seeking advice on
medical malpractice matters should consult with an experienced trial
attorney. The local county bar association should be able to provide
assistance in this area. Keep in mind that in a possible malpractice
action a good evaluation requires documentation as to what has happened.
In this regard, copies of records need to be obtained, including those
from the putative defendant physician (including copies of the patient's
chart with consultations, progress notes, consent forms, operative
reports, before and after photographs, and all handouts to the patient
including advertising brochures, pre and post-operative instructions,
etc.) and from the operating facility (including nursing records,
consent forms, operation records, etc.) since many of those records are
not kept in the physician's patient file.
