What do the pro's look for in a
new stunt performer?
When attempting to enter the stunt profession there's one important thing to remember regarding etiquette/how to act in the presence of other stunt performers. The stunt profession is just that - a profession. Act professionally!

The fact that you've chosen to become a stunt performer in itself is testament enough for your lust for adrenaline, passion for thrill seeking. . . whatever you choose to call it, it's the one thing that you have in common with every stunt performer, that is a given. You're not going to get into the business by acting like a crazy cocky wild person. Professional stunt people share your enthusiasm and understand your motivation. In time, if you play it right, you'll get your chance to show your stuff in front of the camera. Until that time comes, the pro's want to see and work with newcomers who know their place on the set, are prepared to learn, have a high attention to detail, and are safety minded.

Since the accident I've spoken with a variety of stunt people and have been told that while any training or preparation you do on your own is essential and undoubtedly valuable, the only thing that can truly prepare you to become a stunt performer is working on production sets with other stunt people.

If it all sounds contradictory and confusing and leaves you feeling not far from where you began (i.e., the "How do I get into the stunt business?" question) that's because it is. Every stunt person has a different story as to how they got their start. You will too. It's admittedly cliché, but nothing worth having or doing comes easily.

My advice: Dig in & go for it!
