APPLE INC.

At Apple, I implemented online courses and posted them to Apple Sales Training Online. In addition, my role included creation of new course interactive learning activities and course templates. For confidentiality reasons, I have only posted screen shots of my Apple work.

project1

How to Demo: iPhone

I developed this course in Flash. An Instructional Designer provided course content in Pages and Keynote. Only corporate authorized images were used. I developed all navigation and interactive learning activities in AS2. In addition, all the text has been externalized in XML files to facilitate foreign language localization.

BECHTEL INC.

At Bechtel, I developed online courses and training for Bechtel University using Flash 5, Flash MX, and Flash MX2004. Over my six year career at Bechtel, I advanced our use of Flash from simple Flash navigation elements embedded in HTML, to courses built entirely in Flash, to Flash courses that include audio and video, and finally to elearning simulations in Flash. Some of my courses were built for sale to external partners. I was also involved in the development of the ecommerce web site and secure session implementation to view the training. My course templates, "knowledge-checks", navigation, and other interactive widgets were adopted by the entire department and are used in every course we built in Flash. For confidentiality reasons, I have only posted screen shots of my Bechtel work.

Flash Course Development

project2

Inside Track Learning Series (9 courses)

This was my first project at Bechtel. I was working with four other Flash developers and they all adopted my template for course development. I developed two courses in this series and built the web portal for access to all nine courses. I was the liaison for our department to other departments involved in the implementation of the web portal.

project2

Project Scheduling Series (20 courses, 9 completed, 11 pending resource allocation)

I was able to win this project for our department against other internal departments and external vendors. These were our first courses to contained scrolling subtitles, audio, and video which I was responsible for optimizing. In addition to developing the completed courses, I also created a spreadsheet for tracking my development process that accurately predicted my percent complete and the date of completion.

project2

Spanish Localization of Annual Review for Employees

I worked with another Flash Developer on the development of both Annual Review for Employees and Annual Review for Managers. My role was to write all the ActionScript that controlled the navigation and interactive learning activities.

Later, it was decided to localize this course in Spanish. I worked with the external vendor responsible for translating all the text and the internal employees responsible for review of the vendor's work as well as integration of the text in the localized version of the course.

Webcast Course Development

project2

Rail Learning Series (38 courses)

Digital Lava was used to create these courses. My role was to add Bechtel elements, correct the text content, time the text content, and debug the courses when there were problems.

project2

Career Development for Engineers

Microsoft Producer was used to create this course. My role was to add Bechtel elements and debug the courses when there were problems.

Corporate Communications Webcasts

project2

Global Business Meeting

This was an annual company event. Senior company leaders gave presentations on the state of the business and were video taped. I was responsible for optimizing the video (or audio) at different bit rates and posting it to the server for company-wide access and dissemination.

project2

Engineering Conference

Microsoft Producer was used to create this presentation. This was the first time this company conference was video taped. I was responsible for optimizing the video (or audio) at different bit rates and posting it to the server for company-wide access and dissemination. In addition, I added Bechtel elements and debugged the presentation when there were problems.

Student Outreach

project2

Organized San Francisco State University Student Tours of Bechtel University

I received a Certificate of Completion in Web Design from San Francisco State University's (SFSU) College of Extended Learning's (CEL) Multimedia Studies Program (MSP). In preparation for an internship, one of the courses at the MSP was to tour possible employers. While this course existed at the MSP, I organized tours for SFSU CEL students of Bechtel University.

SMASHCAST

SmashCast was developing web applications using Flash. With SmashCast's application, users were able to merge music, photos and text captions on-the-fly with movie templates to create individualized rich media productions. As a Flash Developer, I worked almost exclusively in Flash 4 ActionScript. My first priority was to push ActionScripting to the limit. In addition, I also debugged any existing ActionScript problems for the Flash Designers and acted as a liaison between the Design Department and the Java Engineers.

project3

Media Tray

This was a proof-of-concept project and part of the version 2 redesign for the SmashCast web application. The idea was to have the media (photos, music, movies, etc.) come in from a server and be laid out on a dragable palette. The user would be able to drag media directly from the pallet to target areas in their project.

In this example, there is a base .swf file which loads the blue media tray and a number of targets that are set dynamically. The media tray is a simple container. Therefore, it must be passed the number of media elements dynamically. The media tray then displays those elements. I have used photos in this example; however, the media could be text, photos, audio or video.

project3

Multiple Languages

This was a proof-of-concept project and part of the version 2 redesign for the SmashCast web application. The idea was to provide the application in the preferred language of the user. All the text fields would be dynamic with variable names. All the values for the text fields would be in a text file by language. When a language is chosen, all the text fields would change to that language by changing the reference to the appropriate language text file. In this example seven different text files are being swapped and loaded on demand.

project3

Teletype

This is a time-based animation. That is, this movie plays independent of the established frame rate of the original FLA file.

project3

Navigator

This is an Adobe Photoshop style window navigator.

WEB DEVELOPER – FREELANCE

project4

Blue Owl

Created all images and design elements using Flash, Photoshop and Fireworks. Built the HTML pages using Dreamweaver and BBEdit. Used 2 Cascading Style Sheets. One style sheet controls the visual presentation on screen and the other style sheet controls the presentation for printing. Used JavaScript functions to control the interactive elements. Published this site in April 2005. Revamped this site in August 2008.

project5

Schmoll Design

This is frame-based site. Designed navigation and information architecture. Created graphics, edited copy, scanned and optimized photos. Authored HTML pages using Dreamweaver and BBEdit. Educated client regarding webhosting and site maintenance. Published the site in August 2003.

project6

Solamente Flamenco

Implemented the site based on Photoshop file mockups. Optimized graphics using Photoshop and Fireworks and authored the HTML pages using Dreamweaver and BBEdit. Used Cascading Style Sheets to control the visual presentation and JavaScript functions to control the interactive elements. Published the site in September 2001.

project4

Little Igloo

Implemented the site based on Photoshop file mockups. Optimized graphics using Photoshop and ImageReady and authored the HTML pages using Dreamweaver and BBEdit. Used Cascading Style Sheets to control the visual presentation and JavaScript functions to control the interactive elements. Published the site in July 2001.

project5

Design One

Implemented the site based on Photoshop file mockups. Optimized graphics using Photoshop and ImageReady and authored the HTML pages using Dreamweaver and BBEdit. Used Cascading Style Sheets to control the visual presentation and JavaScript functions to control the interactive elements. This site was launched in July 2001.

project6

Samoan Community Development Center

Worked along side two other designers to determine site navigation and information architecture based on research and content the client provided. Created graphics with guidance from an art director based on client specified design elements. Edited content for use on the web. Scanned and optimized photos. Authored HTML pages using Dreamweaver and BBEdit. Educated the client regarding webhosting and site maintenance. Used Cascading Style Sheets to control the visual presentation and JavaScript functions to control the interactive elements. Published the site in June 2000.
