April 1st - This being the home buying and selling time of year, I thought I would highlight an interesting web site that will help you get a better idea of the value of your home. You can start out by checking recent sells of homes right on your own block or street. Just go to Yahoo! Real Estate and click on Home Values. There is a lot more data available, like ratings for all the local schools in Contra Costa County. Just click on the underlined title below:

Yahoo! Real Estate

April 1st - Here is an interesting site that tracks the schedule and flight times of current flights in the USA. You enter the name of the airlines and flight number, and the site will give you the latest estimated time of arrival for that flight. You can also have an email sent to you to let you know as soom as the flight has landed. This worked out well for me when Eileen was delayed almost two hours in her flight back from Manchester, New Hampshire. I wanted to get the latest info during the day so I knew when to pick her up. Of course, you can always call the airline for this data, but it shows just how much the Internet is doing in providing vital information on a timely basis. I entered a request for email notice when flight landed in Oakland and got prompt email reply when flight actually landed in Oakland(It landed at 9:35PM and the plane was at the gate at 9:45PM.

Update March 1st - This page seems to want to grow in several directions. I use Contra Costa News for all subjects concerned with home or individual interests. One subject that is hot now is on-line shopping. This month I want to specifically feature some new on-line auction sites. These sites raise the level of shopping on the Internet to a new level. I'm talking about those very prestigious institutions of Sotheby's and Butterfield antigue auctioneers. Recently, Yahoo! and Butterfield completed a deal where Yahoo! will feature Butterfield on their website, as well as Butterfield having their own site. If you are interested at all in antigues, you will want to refer to these sites to check their catagories, catalogs and wealth of information on the more valuable treasures of our world. Now just click on the underlined titles below:

Butterfield & Butterfield

Yahoo! Auctions: Butterfield & Butterfield

Sotheby's

Now if you want a more general site to check-out this business of auctions on-line, try the following site:

Yahoo! Auctions

These sites will be the start of a new link to on-line shopping sites which will be developed over the next few months.

I have been getting these clever electronic greeting cards from relatives and friends. They are very easy to create and are free. You will want to check out the web site by clicking on the underlined title below:

Can you remember highschool from your teenage years? Of course you can. Well, things are a little bit different today in the classroom. Computers are now a part of most students' life and for studying assignments in school. I thought it would be interesting to show the highschool sites of some schools in the local area. Check them out below and see what you think:

Now check out Clayton Valley High School Alumi Site. If you graduated from that school, you can enter your name for the year of graduation and be in touch with your contempories from the old school days:

The Central Contra Costa Edition of the Contra Costa Newspaper featured Diablo Books in their Walnut Creek Journal Section on Thursday, December 31. This article was of particular interest to me, as I know both of the partners in this new store located in the Ygnacio Plaza Shopping Center. Lynn Kuehl is a long time contributor and volunteer with the Friends of the Library and Kim Brandt is a former member of the Pleasant Hill City Council and also served as Mayor of Pleasant Hill. Both of these persons have given generously to the local community and I wish them success in their new venture. Actually, Lynn has considerable knowledge and love for books of all types. So, if you are interested in collectible books, LPs, and CDs, you will want to check out the store. Lynn will also stock new books, but his main focus will be on used books in several categories. Many of you with your own book, LP, or CD collections might consider selling them to Lynn, who still needs many categories in each of those lines.

With all the work in setting up a new store, there hasn't been a lot of time to build their web page; but their web site is still worth checking out and making a bookmark to save for future visits. Just click on the underlined title below:

With the Internet just exploding with new technology and innovation, I thought I would feature a couple of web sites pointing out our future in the way we shop. In particular, Sotheby's development of their new auction web site to be opened in July will make the collection and trading of art, antiques, and other collectibles a whole new ballgame. Along with E-Bay Auctions, these sites will extend the craze over "beanie babys" to all sorts of items of historical value. Check them out below:

Additions for October 1st

Now here is a web site to consider for keeping in touch with your whole family network. These days families tend to spread out all over the country; or even the world. This site is set up in a straightforward manner that will enable you to have a 24-hour line for sending messages to either your entire family network, or to just selected members of the group. You can also post those photos in the gallery for viewing by all the network. Or how about a family get-together live chat. Just schedule the time with your clan and start typing back and forth to each other. There is no cost....the site is free to members. We have set up one for our own clan and it works well.
