Concert Series

Here’s what’s happening to the concert series.  Increases in venue rent, sound, printing, gas—have jumped our overhead to $800. That does not include the upfront guarantee we give the performers.  Also availability of the Fresno Art Museum as a venue has become limited.  So we’re looking for ways to keep the concert series going.  Here are some ways you can help and also be a winner.
Purchase a spring season ticket:  Our three remaining concerts plus a bonus concert with reserved seating.  You choose. Front row, middle, side?
Two years ago we instituted the concert season ticket concept.  It helped us crack the overhead nut and folks were nutty about the concept.    Such a deal!  And if you can’t make a concert, tickets are transferable.   Call Pat for the price: 431-3653, then send a check and your choice of seating to Pat Wolk, 6661 N. Forkner, Fresno CA 93711.  First come, first choice of seating. Then circle the dates on your calendar.   We have an exceptional lineup of performers.  Spread the word.  Invite a friend.  Think birthdays, anniversaries or I love yous.  Thirty-five season ticket holders will cover our overhead expenses. I promise you these will be exceptional concerts.

Sacred Harp Singing

Hi, all!  We just got back from the All-California Singing convention in San Diego & enjoyed seeing Scott & Jane there--and Susan Turpin from Stockton, too! The old schoolhouse in Poway Park had great acoustics, & we sang 179 songs in 2 days,  with singers coming from as far away as Chicago, New York, & Maryland. We hope to see you at our next practice on Feb. 6th at 3:00. By the way, check your calendars because you might be interested in going to the one-day Golden Gate Singing on April 24th in Berkeley. Bonner Auditorium needs financial help

The Fresno Art Museum needs financial help. Their roof is leaking and their art is endangered.
Our favorite concert venue for many years has been the lovely Bonner Auditorium in the Fresno Art Museum.  In addition to hearing outstanding acoustic music in the intimate auditorium, concert-goers have had the added pleasure of viewing touring contemporary art exhibits because it is the only Modern Art Museum between San Francisco & Los Angeles.
The Bonner Family Foundation has once again come to the rescue, but it is a matching grant.  Let's help them if we can.   Consider making a donation--however much you can-- and send a note along saying:  "Yes, I'd like to help the Fresno Art Museum in reaching the Bonner Family Foundation matching grant."  You might mention you're a Folk Society member and how much you appreciate them.  OR--   If you've had a membership to the museum and have let it lapse, now would be a good time to renew your with your $25.   Mail your check to Fresno Art Museum 2233 N. First Street Fresno CA 93703.

The Fresno Youth Folklore Society

is an organization which caters to the youth of Fresno, California.  The group is dedicated to the preservation of folk arts and culture in the Central Valley.  In order for these traditions to survive, culture must be passed down from one generation to the next.  For this reason, young people are instrumental in maintaining cultural identity.
The Society exists to bring together Fresno’s young artists, musicians, dancers, and performers.  It also seeks to recognize  those Fresnans who continue to pass on folk customs and traditions. http://youthfolklore.com/
