  • In many ways, the study of Oriental Medicine is dependent on the study of China and Chinese thought just as the study of Western Science is dependent on the Aristotelian Excluded Middle.  That is something is either A or B, but not both.  Chinese/Daoist thought says that something can be A or B or some portion of both.  Additionally, Chinese thought is permeated with the concept of change.  Everything changes.  How we manage those changes determines the changing state of our health.

Daoism (Taoism) has had a great influence on Chinese medicine in terms of its theory and development.  My studies of the Yi Jing (I Ching) lead me to Daoism and I found that one of the tenets of the Daoist was to be a healer as well as be studied in the Martial Arts.  This make sense in that the fighting of a disease is like the fighting of a battle.  While it is well to say today "Can we all get along?", when you have pneumonia, you want to rid the body of it not seek a mutual co-existence.
