Regular Exercise

Healthful Work

Daily exercise helps the mind, body and soul.  While there are many activities in our western society that pass as exercise, with few exceptions, they do not provide a life long benefit.  With the introduction of Tai Ji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan) and Qi Gong (Chi Kung,) exercise is becoming a life long activity.

I recommend that a person learn Zheng Man-Qing's (Cheng Man-ch'ing) style of Tai Ji as it is simple in structure and sufficient to be done in a short amount of time.  Additionally, I recommend two different Qi Gong forms:  The Eight Brocades and the Tai Ji Qi Gong which has 18 exercises.  Neither is difficult and both can be done in about 20 minuets.  Both can be done by people who are in wheel chairs or bed ridden.

Points To Remember:

  • Stretching and slow gentle cardiovascular exercises such as Tai Ji Quan and Qi Gong
  • Perform stretches with a focused mind and controlled breath
  • Exercise daily
  • Walk after meals
  • Avoid sweating in the wind or on cold days
  • Avoid getting a chill
  • Dress appropriately
