Oriental Massage

Healing Touch

There are two types of massage used in Oriental Medicine. Tui-Na and Shiatsu.

Tui-Na consists of very specialize strokes and manipulations.  Its major function is the freeing of joints after injury and the treatment of children. It is the medical physical therapy of China.  Typically, people who practice Tui-Na spend the same amount of time learning Oriental Medicine as an Acupuncturist does.  Additionally, they learn the various techniques of the massage.

Shiatsu comes from Japan and is more related to conventional massage than Tui-Na.  Shiatsu involves massaging along the meridians of acupuncture using special techniques.  It is quite well know here in the West and is a requirement in the licensing of acupuncturist in California.

Self-Massage is an important part of life.  Self-massage is done after meditation and Qi Gong to bring circulation back to the body and awaken the mind-body relationship.  Self-massage is done as a general health treatment.  It can be done at anytime anywhere.
