Key West, Fla. Feb 20 (AP) – Two life jackets marked Sulphur Queen were found today in the Atlantic, indicating that a 523-foot tanker that disappeared Feb. 2 with 39 men aboard may have met disaster at sea.One of the jackets was located by a Navy torpedo retriever vessel in the Gulf Stream 14 miles southeast of Key West. A Coast Guard patrol vessel found the second jacket and began an intensive search for any possible survivors.
The tanker left Beaumont, Tex., Feb. 2 on a run to Norfolk, Va., carrying 15,000 tons of molten sulphur. She was never heard from again, although she carried two high frequency radio transmitters with emergency batteries and also had a radio telephone.
