Records indicate that this engine had rings, bearings, and a valve job in 1971. The receipts show that the original owner paid a whopping $18 for the valve job!

I pulled the engine in 1991 at 120,000 miles and replaced all of the gaskets, seals, oil pump, and timing chain.

The air conditioning compressor begain making noises in 1997, so the only non-stock upgrade to the engine compartment is the modern A/C compressor and the switch to R134a refrigerant.

In December 2000, at 170,400 miles, the oil pressure light was staying on at idle, and the crankcase blow-by was too much to tolerate. So out came the engine and transmission for a complete rebuild. Everything was retained as close to stock as possible. Cylinders were bored .020 over, new pistons, rings, stock profile camshaft, lifters, oil pump, timing chain and gears, original crankshaft reground, new bearings, and a valve job. The 2 speed automatic transmission was treated to a complete teardown and inspection, and was fitted with new clutches and seals. Wow!!! It has taken until July 2001 to complete, but she runs like a beauty!
