Door Mirror Removal
Answer 1
The removal is really easy. First you need to remove the glass. To do this you
must push the glass at the top or bottom so that it is looking up at the sky or
down at the ground. Now you should be able to take a tool, I prefer a door
panel popper, aand gently slide it behind the glass, between the glass and the
metal plate that it mounts to. The glass is held in with three pins that pop
into holes in the plate. There are two pins on one end of the mirror and one
pin on the other. You must be very carefull when you pry on it so that you dont
crack the glass. The best way to do this is to pry just a little bit at a time
and then go to the other end and do the same thing. Go back and forth until it
pops off.
Once you have one side off and can see it, the other door will be a piece of
cake. There will be two wires that are plugged in to the glass. This is the
mirror defroster. Simply pull the wires, one at a time, strait off the metal
posts. Be carefull not to pull the caps off of the wires.
Now you can pull the bolts that hold on the motor plate. After that unplug the
motor plate and remove. Now you can use a molex puller and remove the wires
from the plug. Make sure that if you are going to turn the car on that you tape
off the hot lead. Now take the mirror and rotate it horizontally. This will
expose the 4.00mm allen screw. It is best if you use a long, T handle allen
tool. That way you won't scratch the paint on the mirror. After you loosen the
screw, the mirror should lift strait up and off. Make sure that while you are
loosening the screw, the mirror doesn't slip off and scratch the door.
