How To - Install memory RAM explained

Complete step by step instructions

Instructions for adding computer RAM memory

Installing memory in your computer is simple if you know how.
Follow the step by step instructions to add RAM and
you will be well on your way to being more confident upgrading your computer.

Use the tool below to find your system memory.

Tools ?

All you will need is a screw driver to open your computer case. Some cases have a thumb screw closure, so you may need to look at your user manual.

Ground Yourself !

Before anything else unplug the computer!
Some instructions tell you to keep the system plugged into the wall outlet while installing your memory. Don't do it. This was fine for older systems, but with newer systems comes suspend to RAM, Wake on LAN, and other wake features. Any system with these feature has power at the motherboard and memory chips at all times.

Static electricity is a killer of memory and any other part of your computer system. You must be very sure to get rid of any static charge before you touch anything inside the case. If you have a wrist ground strap, use it. If you don't have a strap all you need do is to touch the metal case before working inside the case or opening the memory package.
If you walk around, make sure to touch the metal case before working inside again.

Open the case

Make sure that the computer is turned off and unplugged. Turn off all your peripheral equipment like your monitor, speakers, cable modem, printer, ETC. ...
Lay the computer on it's side.Remove any screws or loosen any thumbscrews and slide or lift the cover open. Sometimes it can be hard to open the case the first time, and you may need to reference your manual.
Set the screws in a safe place for later. Take a good look around inside before starting your memory upgrade.

Install your memory

OK, You now have the computer unplugged and open, You know you need to touch the case every time before you work inside. I could go on here showing you exactly how to install your memory with great pictures and arrows ...
But Crucial has already created very good instructions to follow here,
Just remember to "UNPLUG" your computer before starting even though Crucial says to keep it plugged in.

I hope this helps you Guys / Gals.
