My Accomplishments on behalf of Milpitas:
Public Safety

  • Expanded Community Policing which has resulted in the 6th consecutive year of reducing serious crime.
  • Secured grant funding  partnership with the school district to place 2 full-time safety resource Police Officers at Rancho and Russell Middle Schools

  • Expanded the successful Neighborhood WATCH program and added 2 Police Officer positions.
  • Achieved full staffing and training of 15 paramedics, and streamlined EMT training  to deliver a higher level of service under a 4 minute response time.
  • Implemented  the 5th  annual  "Earthquake Preparedness Drill" for the elementary schools. 
  • Implemented a pre-school fire safety program and provided the funds for the Kidsafe House, utilized at events and schools.
Quality of Life , Parks and Recreation
  • Created the Child Care Task Force to develop a Milpitas Child Care Master Plan.
  • Completed the Hetch-Hetchy Trail path in Sunnyhills.
  • Lobbied for park renovations for Augustine Park, now home to "Music in the Park" series and future art display from the Alliance for the Arts.
  • Implemented the Neighborhood Preservation Ordinance and funded the "Lend- a-Tool" program to residents, located at Fire Station 2 on Yosemite.
  • Initiated the construction to expand and improve the Milpitas Sportscenter and  the long awaited "Teen Center".
  • Worked for 7 years to implement the Roger Yee Athletic Fields for Young Women at Russell School.
  • Expanded residential Household Dump Day accessibility, while achieving the State mandated waste reduction by 51% without raising taxes. 
Transportation
  • Provided transportation improvements with the Tasman Bridge opening, the McCarthy Ranch Drive connector to Dixon-Landing/880 and the Tasman/Great Mall Drive overpass.
Hillside Preservation
  • Developed the Hillside Preservation Strategic Guidelines to create an Urban Growth Boundary to limit sprawl, which led to voter approval in 1998.
  • The ONLY candidate to consistently VOTE to protect and preserve our Milpitas Hillsides.
Education
  • Implemented the "safe route to schools" master plan.
  • Continued as your representative on the Bond Oversight Committee for the past 4 years to assure ALL and any matching funds are used to enhance our children's educational experience.  To date we are reinvesting almost 100 million dollars into our schools.
Budget
  • Produced a balanced budget since 1996 with a 20% reserve in year 2000.
  • Capital improvement projects include a new, larger, high-tech equipped Library, City Hall and a future improved Community Center/Performing Art Center.
