Meeting Minutes
Date: Tuesday, 1/21/2003
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Avila Beach Yacht Club
Administration
Jeff Blauer presented the members with the list of new officers as were elected at the previous meeting, for the upcoming season. They are as follows:
Jeff Blauer: President
Mike Nunno: Vice President
Tifnie Bursheim: Treasure
Heather Lewis: Secretary (non-board)
This list will be submitted to the bank for new signature cards.
Next the budget that was previously approved was reviewed. The first expenditure will be for the refurbishing of the 100. The estimated cost will be $3,000. There will also be a few expenditures for equipment that may be needed to start the season. The mirage has been paid off with an initial check of $4300, and another check of $4300. We still owe $800, and $150 for shipping and insurance. We are waiting for Dana and San Diego to pay for their boats, and then they will be shipped.
The next item on the agenda was the collection of dues. Anyone that can pay their dues in advance, it would be greatly appreciated. We need to raise $3000 for the refurbishing of the 100. Dues this year was voted up to $275 at the last meeting. This will now include race fees for the iron man season, so the coaches will not have to hunt down everyone to pay for their seats. If you race every race you will save $75. Elicia asked if we have student rates this year. Talk to Jeff and it will be worked out.
The KOA meeting is this Saturday in Redondo. Lon and Jeff will go down and propose to move our race up to June. That way we can get full participation. If they will not make this change, then we have to have the race in August.
Our web page is at PaleKai.org. The agenda for upcoming meetings, and the meeting minutes will be set up on the web page for everyone’s access. Dara Manker, Jeff Blauer, and Heather Lewis will work on this.
The audit that was requested for last year was complete. We have an ongoing budget that has been approved.
We need to have everyone’s email addressed up to date. Stanley Lewis will be working on updating the list.
Equipment Issues
The trailer lights are not working. Lon will call Perkins to follow up.
Iakos Need sanding, and varnish. Bill Hurley will be handling
We need to work out someway of protecting the canoes from the sun. Jeff is working with Rob Rossi on the clubhouse. Rob wants to build a two-story building with canoe storage, meeting facilities, gym, and showers. This is still in the planning stages. We still need to work out someway of protecting them until the club gets built.
No more straps Rope only. The y’s are beginning to crack where they are connected to the gunnels because of the added pressure placed on them by using the straps. We will have a roping workshop at the beginning of the season. Everyone needs to help take care of the canoes. Be aware of how they are being treated. Members need to take ownership when new paddlers use the equipment and teach them proper usage.
Estimate for the Haku Nalu Take off 20 lbs, angle the seats maybe, and lengthen it.
Weights for two canoes
New Radio
Tire rubbers
The box needs to be worked on. It needs a new lid.
We will be having a work party to kick off the season in March.
Safety
The safety manual is on the web. Each new member must be shown the safety manual, and have someone go over it. We need to get a waiver that says the safety material has been read. Coaches are responsible to review safety procedures with the crews.
Radio use, Flare use, Rigging, Huli drill
Single crews MUST stay within the bay (red buoy/White rock). Always use the radio.
Membership Responsibilities
Everybody has a responsibility to care for our equipment. It is the number one priority.
Keep informed. Check the web page for information. Come to the meetings.
Meetings are the third Tuesday of every month and are open to everyone.
There will be a kick off meeting in March.
Start thinking about promoting the club and building up our membership.
