Meetings
Jeff says this is the only meeting we'll have this year
Officers
Jeff will continue as president. If anyone else has an interest in being president, please contact Jeff.
Elicia Wise is the new Vice President.
Dues
After discussion, it was decided that dues will remain at $275 per year. This covers 6 races for each team.
Race schedule for the 2004 season
Each team should decide which 6 races they want to attend. Jeff encourages all crews to support the Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Marina del Rey races, as all the crews of these clubs have been big supporters of our races.
Morro Bay canoe
Jeff stressed the importance of taking care of the canoe we take off-site for the winter. The canoe must be covered with a tarp, and checked every week or so if it is not being used, or after heavy rains.
T-shirt sales
Discussion of what to do with the extra t-shirts included selling them at swap meets and farmer's markets. People had varying degrees of faith of being able to sell them for $5 each at these venues. It was decided that t-shirts will be given to new PKO members.
Sponsor thank you letters
Discussion of what to do for our sponsors. Joanne says she's given several sponsors t-shirts.
Canoe trailer driver
Jeff and Mike Nunno have so far been the only volunteers to drive the canoes to races. Others who are interested in doing so should contact Jeff. Trailer drivers will receive a free hotel room and a meal for each race they drive to.
Dryland training canoe
What to do with the "Turtle," now that it is no longer seaworthy? Jeff suggested using it for a dryland training canoe. If this issue was resolved, I missed it.
Tent repair
Work Party Saturday, December 6th, 2003 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Jason and Brian will bring ladders. Joanne will purchase bungie cord, a grommit kit and 200 grommits. Bill will bring fiberglass and resin. Dara will bring a lubricant for the dollies, an air pump, and perhaps some carpet and a staple gun to repair the dollies. Heather will purchase a whiteboard (Yvette may have one she can donate) and some dry-erase pens.
Storage Box
Jeff says he has seen a 10'x8' plastic storage container at OSH for less than $400. Other members pooh-poohed this. Jeff will investigate to prove that it's true.
Club Paddles
I missed the resolution on this too. Jeff did say we needed a secure storage area for our paddles (see item #11 above), since several club stearing blades have disappeared this last season. One of our sponsors provided some new paddles for us, and Jeff has painted their handles purple to discourage further theft.
PFDs
Jason volunteered to pick up 20 new PFDs.
Order rope (Art Nelson Canvas, Hoholulu)
Yvette volunteered to order 500' reel(s) of rigging rope.
Trailer (saddles, licence plates, hubs, paint, front wheel)
Nunno will get license plates to replace the plates that were stolen in the San Diego race. Elicia will investigate getting new saddles for the trailer.
Maintain phone/email list
Anyone who has input should send e-mail to dmanker@excite.com. The latest contact list is always available at www.palekai.org/announcements (username/password needed to access the document: contact dmanker for details).
Maintain Web page
Dara will continue to maintain the web page.
Non profit status(Jill)
Not discussed.
Waiver/new member coordinator
Not discussed.
KOA rep (DEC 13 Meeting/past dues)
KOA Reps are Bill Hurley and Greg Boege.
PKO Program For Kids
Jeff says he has received a $15,000 grant to start a PKO program for kids. He says there was a lot of enthusiasm for the program this past year, and the kids did great at the State Sprint Championships in Santa Barbara. Anyone who is interested in volunteering should call Jeff.
