Meeting Minutes
Date: Tuesday, 3/16/2004
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Avila Beach Yacht Club
New VP
Hugh Dohi was elected as the new vice-president. Sadly, Elicia will be leaving us to get a "real" job.
New KOA Reps
were elected: Bill, Denise, and Ted, with Susan Puhl as the alternate.
KOA Meeting
will take place on Saturday, March 27th at NAC in Newport Beach. The coaching clinic starts at 9 a.m. Under discussion for vote will be limiting the Masters division to using only Bradley canoes. The club recommends voting no on this issue, due to the fact that the smaller clubs such as ours don't have many bradley canoes. Also under discussion will be the raising of race fees to $10 per seat ($6 of which would go to the club, and $4 which would go to KOA. Jeff says the increase is being requested due to increases in insurance fees).
Update 4/4/2004: Denise attended the KOA meeting. She reports that Masters and Senior Masters crews are now required to race in bradley canoes.
Dues
are $275 for the year, which includes registration and canoe transport for 6 races. If you have not already paid them, send your dues to our treasurer:
Tifnie LaCabe

Tom Owen has purchased a 7'x7' shed. Tom and Mike Shandroff assembled the shed on Saturday 3/20/2004.
Trailer
Jeff says the canoes are getting thrashed more from taking them on and off the trailer than from use in practice. Jeff and Mike Nunno will add additional padding to the trailer saddles.
New Locks
Debbie Louie volunteered to purchase locks with long loops, and 4 cans of purple spray paint.
Trailer License Plate
the "Pale Kai" license plate was stolen during the San Diego race last year. Tom Owen will look into getting a new plates.

All Men's crews: are planning to practice Tues, Thurs, Sun.
Russ' coed crew: is planning to practice Tues, Thurs, and 9 a.m. on Sat.
The two other coed crews are planning to practice Weds and 9 a.m. on Sat.
All coaches must explain huli responsibilities of each seat to new paddlers prior to going out in the ocean.
We should try to avoid using the bradley if at all possible. Jeff says it is brittle and won't last long. If all the other canoes are in use and a crew must use it, please be extra careful, e.g. take care not to run it up on the beach when coming in through the surf.
Junior Outrigger Program
Will be conducted for a 2 week period from July 12-24th for children ages 11-18. The price is $100/kid, and includes one race in Santa Barbara. Practice will be from 12:30-3 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering, or have a child who would like to participate, contact Jeff Blauer (805) 544-2016.
Russ has donated an OC-1, and Jeff has 2 OC-1s. These canoes do not belong to the club, but are available to members upon Jeff's approval. Contact Jeff if you are interested in using them.
