Meeting Minutes
Date: Thursday, 6/30/2005
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Avila Beach Yacht Club

Santa Barbara Sprint Race
Takes place on July 23rd. The Novice men's, Senior Masters women's, and several other crews are planning to be there. Jeff will be driving 2 canoes down, and needs some people to help rig that morning. Note that there is no coed division for the Sprints.
Jeff suggests practicing flag turns for this race.
Other sprint races: club members who attended this meeting expressed no interest in attending other sprint races due to the long drive required to reach them.

9-man Season
9-man races must be paid for by those paddling (they will not be paid for by the club). Per crew, it's $200 for the chase boat plus $25 per seat. So, roughly $50 per person.
Jeff asked who is interested in the 9-man season. Those who expressed interest in Catalina are: Heather, Gigi, Debbie, Cindy, Gary, Mike Nunno, Ted, Tom O., Charlotte, Jeff, Laurel, and Dennise .
Russ' crew will also go to Catalina with Elise, and possibly Debbie.
Pao Pao: Those interested are:Jeff, Cindy, Gary, Charlotte, Gigi, and possibly Heather and Ted. August 6th (same as Alcatraz). Cindy is interested in Alcatraz.

New Bradley
The new bradley purchased this season needs to be stiffened up, and still needs additional weight. The club decided to wait for the winter before taking it to Ventura for repairs. Discussion ensued about the poor quality of the bradleys we have received.

Jerseys
The club is being fined $54 because two people in one of our crews at the San Diego race had blue flowers across their jerseys rather than purple. A comment was raised about why KOA can waste its time on these trivial matters, but can't enforce the quality of the bradley canoes that are being built.
Denise says there are no more XL jerseys left (if there are any left, they're M and L). Jeff suggests sharing jerseys for any additional SCORA races this season, until we order new jerseys for next season..

Junior Program
12:30-3 M-F. Volunteers needed to help. July 11th-23rd.
Christine, who was Brian Wilson's (a former paddler who died several years ago) girlfriend, has donated Brian's 1-man to the Junior Program.

Seat Pads
Denise brought two different types of pads for the seats. It was agreed that the green pads would be used in the clippers, and the black pads will be put in the other boats.

Radios
Mike Shandroff mentioned several things we should keep in mind about using the radios:

  • Put the rubber stopper in to make them submersible.
  • No need to put them on the charger every night or we'll burn them out.
  • Do not leave them in the dry bags: take them out after practice and put them on the stand so that they can dry out.

Tent
Jeff asked if someone would research getting a wider tent (35x40 or greater) to house our 6 canoes. Mike Shandroff volunteered to look into this.

Northern California Ironman
Heather will put up signup sheets for these races.

Logos
Lon made a motion to retain the old logo. Denny seconded the motion. A vote was taken to keep the original logo: 9 voted in favor, 4 voted against. The final decision will be made at our next meeting: if someone wants to make a motion to have another logo, we'll vote on that issue then. Otherwise, we'll keep the old logo.

Next Meeting
Tuesday, August 16th, 2005.
