Treasurer's Report
The club has $6K in the bank. We'll be using some of this towards equipment and tent repair
Status of Incorporation
PKO is one of the only clubs who is not yet incorporated. Mike Nunno and Jeff Blauer are looking into incorporation status for the club, and should have the information and paperwork together by our next meeting in November 2005.
More Support for New Paddlers
Comments were made about how to help new paddlers: how to make them feel more welcome and give them good information about paddling. Awhile back Bob Biddenger's daughter created a very nice booklet that contained useful information for paddlers. This booklet was created in Adobe Illustrator. Dara will contact Bob to see if his daughter might be able to provide us with a copy in pdf format. If so we'll make it available on the web. Also, Jeff will provide Dara with a hard copy of the club by-laws to put into electronic format and provide on the web.
Junior Program
Jeff said the program was so successful this season he had to turn away many interested junior paddlers. He is considering running a Spring program in addition to the Summer program next season. Jeff will make a request of a grant ($2K to $3K) for the 2006 season. He may also buy a shed especially for the Junior program to keep their equipment separate.
Dues
6 people have not paid their dues this year, despite apparent repeated contact by the club Treasurer and President. (The names were originally listed here, but after being contacted by one of these people who said contact was never made, I removed the names.) It was agreed that next season everyone must pay their dues by a specific date. Everyone agreed to enforce that those who do not pay will not be allowed to practice or race.
Equipment
Jeff will post a repair list in the shed. As you notice repairs that need to be made to the equipment, please add to this list. We'll discuss the repairs and schedule a work party and/or assign tasks at our next meeting in November.
Known problems:
* Iakos: one set of clipper iakos are starting to delaminate. The club will buy another set of Bixler iakos to replace them.
* Dings: the canoes will need to be repaired for dings. One of the clippers needs a gel coat: Jeff will contact a friend of Tifnie's in Morro Bay who may be able to repair it.
* Radios: at least one radio has failed to recharge because of corrosion preventing the charger from making a good contact with the radio. We can help prevent this corrosion by making sure the rubber plugs are inserted in the radios when the radios are not attached to the chargers.
* Tent: Ernie will look into buying a 40'x60' tent. He'll also look into the cost of individual canoe covers. It was noted that canoe covers could take approximately 10 minutes to put on, and therefore might not be the preferred method of keeping canoes out of the weather.
* Donated OC-1: the OC-1 that Brian's girlfriend generously donated to the club needs a new seat and iakos to be useable. Discussion ensued about the club buying these and making the OC-1 available via sign-up sheet. General consensus was that the OC-1 would probably get damaged before very long.
* Seats: we'll glue the seats down on some Sunday after the season is finished.
* New bradley: discussion about stiffening the canoe using foam core. A place in Ventura may be able to do this: Lon will give their number to Mike Nunno, who will call verify. If so, the canoe may be dropped off in Ventura on the way down to the Catalina race. |
