The Digital SEAS Puffin is what we called the prototype speaker with the most uniform horizontal polar response. The Digital SEAS Puffin is a short winged version of the Digital SEAS Winged Phoenix. I'm now trying some digital filters to see how the overall system sounds.

We will have to "clip" the wings of our last design to make the new Puffins! (Steve Houlihan came up with this name idea. Patricia found the Puffin picture and Steve added the drivers and made them face each other.)

The new Puffin prototype is very narrow - 11" wide and has short sides 2.5"-2.75". The original Phoenix with Scan-Speak drivers was 12.5" wide and had 3.5" deep sides. The Puffin prototype has a more uniform polar response than the original Phoenix main panel for BOTH the SEAS drivers and the Scan-Speak drivers.

Here are close-ups of the back and the front. The top will be cut flush with the sides. The front of the sides is rounded with a 3/4" radius router bit. We put the braces in at the top and bottom of the tweeter to provide more rigidity. We measured with and without the braces and found little difference in the polar response..
