MASTERING TIPS
1. Come Prepared - Bring all material that you will be using, and don't wait till the day before the mastering session to start looking for mixes. Find the material, then book the session.
2. Your mixes should not be run through any sort of mastering processors prior to mastering. Running your mixes through maximizers, Finalizers and L2's will make the mixes louder when you listen to them, but it leaves the mastering engineer with very litte headroom to work with. This will almost always lead to digital distortion on the final product.
3. Have all of your source material marked with all of the good mixes labeled. Not having to audition every song while trying to find the good take will save you a lot of time.
4. Be ready with at least a rough song order. This is easily changed in the mastering process, but you should at least put some thought into it prior to mastering.
5. Have the catalogue number ready for when the engineer needs it. There is nothing more frustrationg than having to stop work while waiting for a callback from the only person who knows the cat number.
6. Don't leave the production of intros, outros and segues for the mastering process. These are better prepared prior to mastering.
