A Coalition of residential organizations devoted
to:
The rebirth of HOLLYWOOD as a pleasant place to live,
shop, and proudly host visitors of the world.
HISTORY OF U.S.H.
| ACTIVITIES: |
Abating crime,
graffiti, civic decay.
Advocating
& supporting sound new enterprises hoping to settle here. Encouraging
civic reforms to enable such. |
| CRIME ABATEMENT: |
|
|
Realizing
the Hollywood Beautification Team, which Past Pres. SHARON ROMANO led to
incorporation as a non-profit corporation able to use the willing labor
of folks convicted of misdemeanors to cleanup the streets and remove graffiti,
and plant trees on an ongoing basis. 1994
Realization
of A.B. 1035, a statewide measure abating 'loitering with the intent to
engage in the sale of narcotics or to solicit prostitution.' This measure
has radically altered the behavior of gangs who once dominated the streets
with their sale of narcotics. 1995
Hosting the
LAPD/Community Service Center, 1718 Cherokee Ave. to coordinate functions
so as to hasten the departure of the fallen, encourage the friendly interchange
of personnel with the community .
Getting SAGE
& CRASH functions to our LAPD Hollywood Division. Having a deputy district
attorney in house, so to speak, devoted to following up cases, and the
team devoted to the suppression of gang activities with facilities in Hollywood. |
| COMMUNITY
PLANNING: |
|
|
Reviewing
applications for new liquor licenses for their propriety. This, in light
of our saturation with such, and the dire consequences of the many past
approvals.
Advocating
the employment of sound planning practices to secure our community goals.
Advocating
certain concepts via a Charter Reform which would have realized a City
Council with each member representing a cohesive community of less than
75,000 people vs the 500,000 currently. Essentially emulating the successes
of our smaller surrounding cities. |
| CURRENT PROJECTS: |
|
|
|
Liquor store
buyback legislation.
Achieving
a useful and desirable community plan which would encourage middle
America to return
to live, shop and be entertained here. |
