Born in Santo Antonio, Funchal, Madeira; son of Antonio Gomes Serrao and Maria Carlota Fernandes Neves, married to Emilia de Souza, born in Villa Franca, S. Miguel, daughter of Joao de Souza and Emilia dos Santos Thadeu.

Resident of Hilo since 1884.

Has been Merchant in Groceries, Dry-goods, Hardware and Liquors, proprietor of Serrao Grape Juice Factory.

Has seven children: Emilia, Joseph, Lewis, Anthony, Alfred, Frank and Maria.

Lewis is a Dentist. Anthony is a Lawyer.
