ELECTRIC RANGER Project

Hi. I'm Dave Luiz in the picture above. The images and text that follows is an attempt to describe my E-RANGER Project . I'm hopeful that the information presented here will be of use to others who may decide to convert a gasoline powered vehicle to electric (battery) power.

I purchased a 1993 Ford Ranger extended cab pickup in May 1996 with the intent of converting it to electric. I was curious about the technical aspects of such a project and about the practical aspects of driving a limited range vehicle on a daily basis and besides, after finishing the construction of our house, I needed a new project/hobby to keep me busy! Being an electrical engineer, this seemed like a perfect choice.

Many people might think ripping appart such a new truck in mint condition is a crazy thing to do but I wanted to drive a vehicle that was fairly modern with the creature comforts I've grown to enjoy. I could have picked up a older rig with a blown engine for a song and a dance but wouldn't have been satisfied with the end result.

This web page is not too fancy because it's my first one. You'll just find text that describes the pictures nearby. If you double click on the image you'll see a full page version of it to get more detail. Use the table of contents to jump to the areas of interest. Enjoy!
