Mechanical Accessories

The first picture shows the power steering pump and it's drive motor. I picked up a 100V 1.5hp permanent magnet treadmill motor for $30. It's coupled to the pump with a toothed belt using about a 3:1 reduction. I've yet to design and build the controller to drive the motor so I don't know exactly how all this will work out.

The next picture shows the vacuum pump which is out of a Chevy Cavalier. It has rubber mounting and I mounted it to the adapter plate to further reduce vibration transmitted to the chassis which works well. The exhaust is connected to what was the charcoal filter used on the ICE fuel system which works great as a muffler without much restriction. It's the small retangular shape in about the center of the third picture above. Note the other view of the pump in the upper right corner. The pump was very easy to integrate in because it has a built in vacuum switch to controll it's operation. I also included the traditional 4" ABS drain pipe vacuum reservoir. It takes about 20 seconds of run time to initially evacuate the system and I'll get about 4 break pedal presses before the pump turns on again.
