The New Song Percussion Ensemble is a fun group drumming class that teaches students the fundamentals of stick and hand drumming.Through the C.E. Gardner Elementary Studies for the Snare Drum, the children learn music theory and written notation, while they review and practice a new exercise weekly.

Each student receives a practice pad, carry bag and drum sticks to use during class and for home studies. They also receive an instructional hand drumming cd and book and make their own drum to play at home. The drum set, congas, marimba and steel drum are introduced along with a special guest from the Caribbean, who plays and makes steel drums.

The students start by playing in small ensembles together and work up to a full group ensemble, which is recorded on cd for each child. New Song Percussion Ensemble also incorporates singing, sign language, rhythmic movement, and cooperative musical games.
