I first developed an interest in flight at about the age of nine and have been a student of aviation and aviation history ever since. In 1973, I began what has turned out to be a lifelong association with the Academy of Model Aeronautics and my involvement with the air show industry began in 1985 with the A.M.A. Air Show Team program.
For the next sixteen years I was an Announcer, Team Manager and Pilot for a 25 member team - The Capital City Barnstormers. We performed at airshows and other events all over Northern California and Nevada, including Beale, McClellan and Mather AF.B., The Sacramento International Air Show, Sacramento Executive, Reid-Hillview, San Carlos, Auburn, Nevada County, Pine Mountain Lake and Placerville airports. At several of these venues, I was the only announcer on site. During this time period, I was also a regular attendee at the Aerobatic Safety Seminars presented by air show performer Vern Dallman. It was at one of these seminars that I discovered that a history of diabetes would not prevent me from obtaining my Private Pilot Certificate, which I did in 2001, fulfilling a life-long dream.
The changeover to announcing full size aircraft occurred in 2003 when I worked as assistant announcer to Steve Stavrakakis at the Vertical Challenge-2003 Air Show at San Carlos Airport and announced the Lake Tahoe Airport 'Airfest 2003'. Since then I have worked with Allen Silver, Steve Stavrakakis and Gordon Bowman-Jones at the Annual Aerobatic Safety Seminars at Yuba County Airport, co-announced with Steve Stavrakakis at the Vertical Challenge All Helicopter Air Shows at San Carlos Airport and announced the Lake Tahoe Airport Airfests at Tahoe Valley Airport, the Wings of Change Air Show at Minden-Tahoe, NV Airport and am part of the announcing team for the Golden West EAA Regional Fly-In and Air Show at Yuba County Airport, CA. It was also my pleasure to co-announce at the wedding of the 'Tumbling Bear' Rob Harrison and Susan Newman Harrison at Cable Airport in Upland, CA.
