This gentleman moved around a lot judging from the
birthplaces of his kids. He lived around Leon, Decatur Co. Iowa until
about 1864 when he left for California. I believe he stopped by Lake
Co. Calif. then went to N. Calif. and Oregon where some of his children
were.

Wm. seems to have come to Calif. in 1853 with Oliver
and maybe Jesse. Two of his children were Mary Jane and Eva Lenore
(I wonder if my mother was named after Eva Lenore). They both married
Studleys from Maine.
2. NAME: Jesse Harris STANLEY
--- BIRTH: 24 Jul 1830 PLACE: Hendrick Co.,Indiana
DEATH: 17 Feb 1875 PLACE: Possibly Mo.
SPOUSE: Mahala Ann SMITH (Note: it appears this should be Culp).
Jesse is my line and I know so little about him.
He lived around St. Joseph Mo. (Mark Twain Country), came to Calif. early,
possibly with Oliver and seems to have gone back after a stint in the gold
mines and an altercation with some Chinese (my mother said that they had
"jumped" his claim and he tried to scare them off but they scared him off).

3. NAME: Mary Elizabeth Stanley
--- BIRTH: 10 Jan 1832 PLACE: Marion Co.,Tenn.
DEATH: 11 Oct 1870 PLACE:
SPOUSE: John Dotley GIBSON (ok, I'm sure he is John Butcher
Gibson).
She also m. William Alfred Boxley after John Gibson was killed in
the civil war.
4. NAME: Oliver Hillis STANLEY
--- BIRTH: 13 Dec 1833 PLACE: Warren Co.,Tenn.
MAR.: 22 Jun 1851
SPOUSE: Nancy Ann Grimes
Oliver was another early arrival to California.
The Grimes marriage may have been a faulty recollection of C. C. Stanley;
I think it agreed that he married a Hatfield. There were several
of them living nearby in Decatur Co. Iowa.

5. NAME: John Robert STANLEY

6. NAME: Ozious La Fayette STANLEY
--- BIRTH: 13 Nov 1837 PLACE: Warren Co.,Tenn.
DEATH: 2 Jan 1904 PLACE: Anderson, Shasta Co.,Calif.
MAR.: 7 Feb. 1858
SPOUSE: Rhoda Frances GIBSON
Ozious lived in Upper Lake but also lived farther north in California
around Anderson (I assume this is the one just south of Redding).
His family was:

7. NAME: Francis Marion STANLEY

DEATH: 1 Apr 1862 PLACE:
Francis fought in the civil war with an Iowa unit.
Ancestry.com says:
Francis M Stanley Enlist Date 06 July 1861
Enlist Rank Priv Enlist Age 22
Served Iowa Enlisted
D Co. 4th Inf Reg. IA died at Nine Eagles, IA on 03 April 1862

8. NAME: Christopher Colombus STANLEY

DEATH: 27 Oct 1926 PLACE:
MAR.: 5 Jul 1858
SPOUSE: Eleoner Travale
C.C. Was a blacksmith and also lived farther north in California and
in Oregon. One source said he died in Cedarville, Calif. just east
of Alturas. He was also married to Sylvia True. His children
are:

2. Rufus Agustus STANLEY
who was responsible for much of this information.
9. NAME: Lemuel Herbert STANLEY
--- BIRTH: 29 Oct 1842 PLACE: Warren Co. Tenn.
DEATH: 17 Feb 1865 PLACE:
Lemuel was said to have m. Mary BUTLER. Mauldin
has him as owner of 'King of All Group' mine presumably in Lake Co.
Calif. and with Oliver in Umatilla Co. Oregon in 1870/80 with Oliver.
10. NAME: Joseph Duncan STANLEY

Lois M. Griener's notes say: Joseph
Dunkin STANLEY, b. 26 Oct 1844, Mercer or Dade Co., MO; d. 17Feb 1863,
Civil War - Iowa.

She may have been Celia, Ceala or whatever; for
a family that produced several newspaper editors, they didn't seem to worry
much about spelling names.

SPOUSE: Rachel
Said to have m. Lucy C. Goodman. The Great
Register of Lake Co. Calif. has him farming in Lower Lake in 1875.
