My name is Charles Kitchen. I am running for Rohnert Park City Council in the November election. I have been actively involved in Rohnert Park politics since 1977. I have made many appearances before the City Council on resident issues. I am dedicated to keep the quality of life in our city. I have the qualified experience to be successful.
The voting record of our city council's majority demonstrates they are putting business interests before residents needs. This shows up clearly in the budget that was recently passed. Recreational programs have been cut back and resident recreational fees increased. While certain self-interest groups there was little effect. The Chamber of Commerce budget was increased from $65,000 to $80,000 with additional $127,000 at their disposal. This is the same Chamber of Commerce that wanted the sixteen screen movie theater on golf course drive against the wishes of the F section residents wishes. This would have added to the neighborhoods existing traffic problems.
For the last four or so years I have be warning of the huge increase in our utility bills and taxes. The worst is yet to come if this pro-growth council continues. The prime culprit is the need for more water and sewer capacity that is built into the general plan. Pro-growth Amando Flores is joined by Mike Harrow who campaigned for Amando Flores when Flores last ran for City Council. Greg Nordin is also running for a third time on the same slate.
I am here to bring about change to our current system. I want to put this city back into the hands of the residents and out of the hands of special interest groups. If you are tired of the way this city has gone and is going I need your help. I don't want money but I need people to support my campaign efforts. Please contact me at 584-7351 or send me e-mail Charles Kitchen. I would be proud to serve my City.
I want a non-growing stable fairly constant population with all the necessary public facilities. Roads, schools, parks, and city facilities built and paid for. There is no need to expand or build additional facilities with the exception of the new City Hall after we have properly established and maintained our tax base. If we become a growing city there would be additional costs to build new or expand existing facilities to supply the increased demand. This would be a result of the additional growth. The additional costs do not exist in a stable city scenario. Quality of life is now in the hands of you the voter. Don't be swayed by the expensive mailers and lawn signs. If their candidates are elected we could end up paying for mail and signs. Mr. Harrow and Mr. Nordin have been telling you how great they are. My flyers have addressed issues. Why have our swimming pools been closed in August? September and October are so hot. We did not build pools to be closed. They say we do not have the money. I say HOGWASH! In my flyers I show where the money is being wasted. They are supporting inept business instead of who is really important, our families. I have been asked why I addressed our golf course issue in my flyer. Because these two golf courses are our most valuable recreational assets. They should be bringing in enough money to help pay for most other recreational programs but they are not. This is because of what I believe the incompetents of certain staff members but primary this present City council. We have to utilize every available asset. We have a large staff payroll but this council wants to bring in consultants. The last one recommended a 46% increase in the Mobil home water rate it took a member of city staff to point out how flawed the analysis was. Once again money wasted.
