Staff:

    Library media teacher: Deanna Guzman
    Library media technician: Lynna Schultz

Hours:

The library opens every school day at 7:30 AM and is open until 3:30 PM every day except Thursday. Computers will be shut down at 3:15 PM. Occasional staff meetings may require that the library close before or after school, in which case a sign will be posted on the door. The library is not open at lunch. Ms. Schultz is in the library full-time; however, Mrs. Guzman is only at South on Thursdays and Fridays.

Checkout procedures:

Students must have a current  student ID card with their picture in order to check out materials. Students may check out up to two books at a time. Regular books are available for two weeks, or ten school days. School holidays and weekend days do not count.  Some reference books can be checked out overnight.

Fines:

Books and other materials kept longer than the ten school-day period will accrue a fine of 10 cents per school day, up to the price of the book. Fine notices will be distributed regularly to English teachers, who will post them or notify the students responsible. Students should not check out books for their friends! If they do, they will be held responsible for the book, not their friends.

Computers:

In order to use the 12 computers that have access to the Internet, students must have a current student ID card and Internet permission on file with the school. Students will need to sign in at the front desk and leave their ID card while using the computers. Computers are to be used for school-related work only! Looking up the World Wrestling Federation or playing video games are not acceptable uses. Students who misuse the computers will be asked to leave. A second violation may result in the loss of all computer privileges in the library. There are only 12 computers for over 1700 students. There are 2 dedicated Card Catalog computers that students may use without showing  ID cards or signing in.

Printing and copying:

A copy machine is available for student use. Copies are 10 cents each.  Students can also print from the computers. Each black and white printed  copy will cost 10 cents and color copies cost 25 cents per page.

Tutoring:

There is after-school tutoring for students from 2:30 to 3:30 every day except Thursday and  Friday.
