The climb starts in downtown Mt Shasta and raises 1100 m to the parking lot at the end of the road at 2330m. It's a 20 kilometer ride with an average grade of 6%. There are mile markers showing the exact elevation. Markers 8 and 9 where missing in June 2006, so even if you don't see them, you are still making good progress.

The lower parts of Everitt Memorial Hwy are rather unimpressive pine plantation. As you climb up you get into virgin pine and redwood forest.

From time to time, the road opens up to great views towards the South and the East: Lassen, Craig's Castle and the Eddys.

Just after mile marker 11, you reach Bunny Flats. In mid-June 2006, the road was closed here due to snow coverage.
