Malaysian rider, Josiah Ng caused an upset by winning the Melbourne Cup on Wheels in sensational fashion at Revolution 4 to become the first international winner in the event's 72-year history. Ng got the better of two-time Olympic gold medallist Graeme Brown, who finished second for the second year running. Young Victorian Michael Downing claimed third place.

Sprint and Keirin were dominated by Australians Shane Perkins and Kaarle McCulloch.

Jason Kenny, Matt Crampton and Dave Daniell started the sprint competition with sub 10.3 seconds. Ross Edgar, Chris Hoy, Matt Crampton, and Dave Daniell moved up to the semis. Dave Daniell beat Ross Edgar, where he was to meet Chris Hoy who defeated Matt Crampton.

The 10 eliminated riders went for a six lap dash and Matt Crampton took top honours.

Dave Daniell took the leading position, craning his neck and keeping his eye closely on the awesome Hoy in a first lap ridden at walking pace. Hoy wasn’t about to concede his position, forcing Daniell to take it from the front. Despite unloading his blistering power for the final 250, Hoy just had the legs to overhauling him on the line.

The women competed in an interesting variation: flying 500m. Endurance rider Joanna Rowsell tooking the win with 32.829.

The Revolution Keirin was taken by on-form Dave Daniell and the Invitation Keirin saw a hugely classy field, including Hoy and the rest of the Sky+HD team, plus keirin legend Teun Mulder. Hoy was in third wheel as the derny pulled off and unloaded two laps out, bringing the crowd to their feet taking the victory and crowning another fine night’s racing at Revolution.

Kerrie Meares dominates the 200m qualifications and wins the Match Sprints. Shane Perkins is the fastest by 23 hundreds, but loses the final against Daniel Ellis. The kilo is a close decision with the first three within 4 tenth of a second:

Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif.) - the Cocktail Napkin with an Outboard Motor - scored the victory on Thursday in the women's 15-16 sprint, after setting the national record in the 200 meter sprint qualification round with a time of 12.852. Coryn added another gold medal to her collection with a win in the women’s 15-16 500–meter time trial with 37:512 which was 2 tenth faster than the winning time in the women's 17-18 category.

In the men's 15-16 Rad Racing NW/Hagens Berman rider Benny Swedberg, "The Swede", also set a new national record in the 200. He went on to win the match sprint. He also crushed the competition in the 500 TT.

The British men's team sprint squad, Jason Kenny, Jamie Staff and Chris Hoy, stormed to a gold medal, besting the French by more than half a second. The world champion team of Grégory Baugé, Kévin Sireau and Arnaud Tournant never challenged the Brits, who were fastest at each lap. Germany (Rene Enders, Maximillian Levy and Stefan Nimke) takes bronze.

Chris Hoy was unstoppable in the Keirin - taking it long every time. In the final, Ross Edgar got the front spot, and then eased back to let Hoy in. Shortly before the pacer pulled off, Edgar let a gap open to Hoy at the front, helping Hoy to launch the winning move. Edgar then followed that up with a come from behind ride past Kiyofumi Nagai to take the silver. Nagai took the bronze medal.
Kamil Kuczynski (Poland) went down in the second round. He overlapped wheels in the second lap and he took Theo Bos (Netherlands) with him. Bothe riders seemed to be fine, but Bos didn't start in the minor final.

The weekend started off well with virtually calm air for the 200mTT's on Saturday morning. Among the most notable rides were 60-year-old Mark Rodamaker's 12.2, and then 70 year-old Paul "The Track Stud" Yazolino blazed to .4 under the current world record with a 12.8! After the 200's there were a number of hard-fought sprint matches and Annabell Holland showed that not only is she the best masters women sprinter at Hellyer, she's also on pace for some great rides at Nat's next month.

In the afternoon the wind picked up considerably but the fast guys still found a way to go fast. Kevin Metcalfe showed that he'll be ready next month when he rode a 3:44 in the 45-49 3k pursuit, and Larry Nolan riding his first-ever 2k in competition rode a scorching 2:24. Nicky Cranmer had the fastest women's pursuit time of the day, but made it look easy on her way to a 2:49.

Sunday morning started with a slight headwind on the backstretch, so maybe that's why Paul didn't go under another world record in his 500. He rode a 39.8, just one tenth off the current indoor world record. There were some very close races in the 500, especially in the men's 55-59, where Alex Millar rode a 37.7 for the win and Keith MacBeth and Mark Altamirano were virtually tied at 37.9. The top 3 fastest times for the women were Annabell's 41.01, Lorraine Jarvis' 41.09, and Julie Nevitt's 41.39.

The points races featured some exceptional fields with more than few riders wearing stars and stripes or rainbow stripes on their sleeves. Former Olympian and World Champion Mike McCarthy won the 40-44 race and Kevin won the 45-49 race by just two points over Ben Swann. In the 55-59 points race first-timer Larry Wolff, fresh off his win in the Masters States Criterium was advised to ride safe and not too close to anyone. He followed that advice and rode away from the field by himself after the first sprint and won by 27 points. There were 12 women combined into one racing group and it was an entertaining race that decided the places for each age group.

By the time the team events started the wind had picked up and the times were slowed by the headwind on the backstretch. Even though there were some tired legs out there we still had 15 teams for the team sprints and 13 teams for the team pursuit. Among the teams were 7 women's team sprint teams and 4 women's pursuit teams. Just as the sun was getting low we finished the racing and out came the beer, stories, and champagne slushies!
