2/3/04 Scanners and Digital Camera

Harmon, I really enjoyed and learned a lot in your Scanning Basics class on 1/12/04. You are really into the details of things (where the real differences between things are)and I appreciated that. If you remember, I suggested the www.dpreview.com site for detailed still camera reviews, well if you aren’t already aware of www.flatbed-scanner-review.org (just found it), this site will suck your eyeballs out of your head with scanner review information !!! This is a long Flash movie created for Sun Microsystems. The file size was kept down by an extensive use of symbols. The client wasn't very worried about download time because their target audience has bandwidth to spare. The link is Sun Microsystems. I was in your Ill 9 class the other day and I just was wondering how to get a screen shot of a website that incluedes the browser and website?
This is important to know because the web designer has to know how much area the customer is actually going to see. In Windows 98 do a screen print by pressing on the "PrintScrn" button on the keyboard. This button is usually found above the "six pack" of buttons on the right of the keyboard. After you press this button you can open Word, Photoshop or almost any other application and paste the image into an open documment. Using the Macintosh operating system the operation is same but the keystroke is different. The Command + Shift + 3 keys, all pressed at the same time make a picture of you monitor.

When I am bookmarking a page some sites display a little icon in the Favorites menu, rather than the Windows Explorer icon. Do you know how is this written in the HTML code?

This one had me stumped for a while until I asked Kevin if he had ever heard of how this was done. He ponted me to the favicon.com website and we did a little research. It is not HTML that generates these little favicon's but JAVA, the powerful programing language from Sun Microsystems. Favicon is a Java applet that keeps a repository of different small icons for the browsers use. Visit the Favicon website for additional information.

These are the Hexadecimal color values for the websafe colors.

Browser Safe Color Table

This is a table of the browser safe colors and their hexadecimal numbers. I've seen a number of these on the web but they all have black or white numbers over the colors. This can modify the way the eye sees the color. This table arrangement puts the numbers beneath the color so your eyes can see the blocks of color without interference.
