Selected Engagements

In our 20+ years as a consultancy, we have had the opportunity to work with many elite corporations. And it's been our privilege to work with an extraordinary group of talented managers.

FINANCE

COUNTRYWIDE HOME LOANS

    Assignment -
Turn around a failed IT division.

    Results -
The division was created to develop and deliver software to an international merger of European and American partners reflecting totally different values and priorities. HTM negotiated strategy, incentive plans and technology expectations to enlist the effort of over 150 people including independent contractors, staff and offshore contract-to-hire personnel. We managed the business understanding, functional requirements, development and conversion efforts. Heterogeneous loan structures represented a significant challenge in their diversity, complexity and governmental accountability. Simultaneously, we continued to envelop expanding business opportunity. Full development, deployment, and reorganization were completed while reducing costs and developing a sustaining operation.

FIRST INTERSTATE BANK
    Assignment -
Provide change management for massive loan integration, operation development and deployment from 5 sites to 1 centralized location. Strategic decision was to implement Microsoft NT LAN technology in concert with legacy systems.

    Results -
HTM successfully consolidated all commercial and consumer lending operations into a single center with over 1600 people. As part of the reorganization, we managed the Distributed Systems Divisions' interests in the implementation and development of Internet firewall systems, trust applications and data warehousing functions.

WELLS FARGO SERVICES CORP.
    Assignment -
Analyze, understand and communicate the existing budgeting structure, and develop a proactive, methodical forecasting model.

    Results -
HTM analyzed, documented and performed sample audit of budget and expense reporting for multiple management units located in San Francisco, Minneapolis and Phoenix. Fact-finding and coordination were complicated by the Wells Fargo/Norwest merger involving multiple systems and expectations. We restructured an approach for staffing actual reporting and ongoing methods for budgeting procedures and expense tracking. The success of this project hinged on communication, not accounting.

HEALTHCARE

BLUE CROSS OF CALIFORNIA

    Assignment -
Retire and merge a primary claims processing system integral to process centralization.

    Results -
HTM converted 180,000 lives to a surviving claims system. Project planning, supervision and task activity functioned on a 24x7 basis. We built a team composed of staff personnel and contractors who were initially unfamiliar with the scope of the effort involved, and developed appropriate staff reward and incentive plans. We were called into the project with only 6 weeks left on a 4-month schedule-we completed the project on time.

KAISER PERMANENTE HEALTH CARE
    Assignment -
Create a structure for a sustaining development and deployment organization.

    Results -
National Clinical Information Systems (NCIS) was conceived as a patient information system capable of being accessed by hospitals, clinics and offices in 13 previously autonomous regions. HTM assumed the role of the National Operations Project Manager to create a structure for the sustained development and deployment of this multi-year project. Successful interfaces between medical and technical organizations resulted in requirements for a platform, comprising over 300 nationally distributed RISC servers, with the potential of reaching 40,000 client workstations. HTM managed a transition to Kaiser internal staff for their ongoing supervision, leaving an organization positioned for success.

KAISER PERMANENTE IT
    Assignment -
Act as a client advocate uncovering process and operational issues left unresolved in a troubled major e-Procurement installation.

    Results -
HTM uncovered the exception processes, unfinished scenarios and previously defined "out of scope" conditions that were creating a shift in power, workload and personal value in an established, very mature organization. We ensured a revitalized review of process and procedures to a greater level of detail in support of the client organization and participated in training and documenting the realignment of workflow and managerial interaction between contributing organizations. We succeeded and made peace.

EDUCATION

CENQUEST

    Assignment -
Design and manage content development for CD-ROM and online delivery of graduate management courseware for the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology. Integrate the existing faculty into a positive process of redirecting and restructuring curricula designed for face-to-face delivery.

    Results -
HTM adapted a bricks-&-mortar graduate course for accredited online delivery. We designed the course layout, coordinating content experts, editorial, video and audio production, and digital media production. We developed the curriculum methodology for interactive digital delivery of all components-topic overviews and exercises, charts and graphs, case studies, video and written evidence, graphics concepts and layouts, and student assignments. We structured the synchronous and asynchronous online collaboration schedule for students and faculty, and for assignment deliverables. This project established an extremely positive working relationship with OGI faculty.

ENTERTAINMENT

MCA TV INTERNATIONAL

    Assignment -
Provide a coordinated stand-alone software platform for use in the international television sales offices for sales tracking and inventory control.

    Results -
HTM designed, developed and implemented organizational procedures and systems to service the Universal City, London, Paris, Beirut, Sydney and Sao Paulo sales and distribution offices. The system provides for entry and tracking of field orders, notices of change, product clearances and inventory control for more than 20,000 products. International exchange rates, market preferences and coordinated main office reporting allowed for individual office selectivity and parent company financial statements.

MCA TV CASTING
    Assignment -
Provide a customized database, tracker and scheduler for talent management.

    Results -
HTM designed, developed and implemented the MCA Television Casting system to include appointment scheduling, tracking of show regulars and voice-over personnel, documenting the legal requirements of hire, creating Casting and Production sheets in multiple formats, and creating actor's work history for telephone inquiry.

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS FLORIDA
    Assignment -
Act as interim manager and systems integrator for the Orlando, FL theme park.

    Results -
HTM provided interim management over a 2-year period incorporating systems integration, procedures and financial control. The baseline for Day One included a spectrum of support systems, ranging from retail to restaurant to massive ticketing, including advance sales daily traffic. The cash environment demanded stringent procedures. Facilities operations ranged from tracking studio backlot rentals to parking lot traffic. We selected all computer systems, vendors and primary management staff. The project required the integration of diverse and incompatible systems and applications. We coordinated personnel for development of backup and disaster recovery, financial reporting, and technical interface to MCA. We worked with planning and engineering to develop job cost programs that would function during initial construction and go forward to facilitate ongoing park maintenance. Initial operation was scheduled to handle 4 million visitors annually-it exceeded expectations. "Go live" date was not negotiable.

UNIVERSAL TELEVISION BUSINESS AFFAIRS
    Assignment -
Provide a financial logging and tracking system incorporating the unique approach required by TV production facilities creating pilot, series and "one-shot" movies of the week.

    Results -
HTM designed, developed and implemented the Holding Account and Logging System to track budget projections, allocations, contracts and artist payments. The system addresses single use contracts and "one-shot" deals, tracks contractual and payment cycles, and processes all TV talent contracts. Multiple payment companies are accounted for, together with diverse forms and cover letters. The system purposely allows for non-reconciliation of accounting records.

MGM/UA
    Assignment -
Determine the functional and financial viability of retrofitting an existing film distribution system, and incorporating known functional requirements from both a legacy system and changing business practices.

    Results -
Determined vendor and hardware selection for distribution and advertising structures. Provided definition, development, direction, implementation and personnel training for rewrite of the state-of-the-art Triad Feature Film Distribution System.

WOMEN IN FILM
    Assignment -
Turn around a non-profit organization in financial and operational crisis.

    Results -
HTM restructured the company's operating format for improved strength and corporate recognition, both internally and publicly. We created staff structures that promoted a positive sense of value and mission, together with a renewed benefit for membership and association. We also attracted promotional associations, expanding previously untapped but extremely viable partnerships in related creative industries. We restructured the financial and legal obligations, and developed and coordinated the sales and marketing strategies to ensure a sustaining, viable organization.

Working with HTM - Omer Simeon and Cynthia Leverhant - is a memory that I will always cherish, and I look forward to many more years of their friendship.
