SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA
These tumors may appear as nodules or as red, scaly patches. This type of lesion is the second most common type of skin cancer found in Caucasians. It is typically found on the face, lips, and rim of the ears. It is rarely found on dark-skinned people. This cancer will develop into large masses and unlike Basal Cell Carcinomas, can metastasize (spread to other parts of the body). Although it is estimated that there are over 2,300 deaths each year from Squamous and Basal Cell Carcinomas, when found early and properly treated, the cure rate is 95%.
