FAQ

Questions for TJs

Q: What is the largest size tires I can fit without a lift?

A: The largest recommended size tire will be a 31 x 10.5. This size will fit without any major rubbing or modifications.

Q: Why would I want to lift my Jeep?

A: A lift kit isn't for everyone. A stock Jeep will get you to a lot of places, even the Rubicon. A lifted Jeep will have more ground clearance between the frame and ground, you may fit larger tires on, you will get more articulation and better approach angles. Another added benefit in a lifted Jeep is you will have a better view of the road ahead. If you drive your Jeep on the street only, then save your money for other things but if you want to go on the tougher trails and want the larger tires then consider a lift kit.

Q: What is articulation?

A: Articulation is a term used for the axles ability to match the terrain or flex. Normally you would want all four wheels making contact with the terrain but in some off road situations this maybe limited by the suspension. If the suspension is limited, one or more of the wheel maybe in the air and the other on the ground. The wheel in the air is not doing anything and will hinder your progress and may cause you to get stuck.

Q: What type of suspension do I have?

A: The CJs and YJ Wranglers '87-'96 came with the traditional leaf springs suspension. The TJ Wrangler '97 and up come with the coil spring suspension.

Q: Is a Jeep safe, don't they roll over a lot?

A: The latest model Jeep has all the mandatory safety feature any current car (IE duel air bags, three point seat belts) and they are safe if not safer then a lot of other vehicles. The Jeep Wrangler is not a sports car. It is a short wheel base vehicle with two live axles and is not built for high speeds of cornering ability. It is built to crawl it's way up hills, down trails, climb over rocks and cross streams. Don't expect it to win road races or setting speed records at the Autobhan because that's not what it's built for. Keep in mind you can also roll anything over in the right conditions.

Q: Are Jeep reliable?

A: Jeep are built to go to remote places without roads. They are built to be reliable and they have a very good record. Nothing in in this world is perfect and things do fail , even Jeeps.

Q: Do I have to modify my Jeep before I take it off road?

A: No, Jeep are ready from the factory to go just about anywhere. All the current production Jeep will run the Rubicon and more.

Q: What is the Rubicon?

A: The Rubicon is a Jeep trail in Northern California that is known for some of the toughest trail that you may encounter. It is considered one of the true test for any off road vehicle and driver.
