Dachsunds in High Fashion
The dachshund's popularity in the world of high fashion has lagged behind its ubiquity elsewhere, however, as these photos from the July 1999 issue of Vogue clearly demonstrate, fashion models, designers, and photographers are catching up and discovering that the dachshund offers something of value.

Here we see lingerie supermodel Heidi Klum setting up an underwear shoot while her loving dachshund looks on patiently. It is gratifying to think that, notwithstanding Klum's status as a world-wide star, famous from her work in the Victoria's Secret catalog, as well as the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, numerous other fashion magazines, and the runways of Paris and Milan, still she makes room in her life for the love of a dachshund. She takes her beloved "Victor" with her wherever she travels, and keeps him at her side throughout the exhausting days of her tireless and challenging work.

It may have been Victor's pleasant calming effect upon the tense and unbounded egos of the fashion industry that has led designers from Calvin Klein to Joseph Aboud to jump on the dachshund bandwagon. Rumor has it that the dachshund is swiftly becoming the fashion accessory du jour in Europe's fashion centers, approaching its already-staggering popularity among American entertainment celebrities. Presumably, once Europe's dachshunds have seduced their owners with their dachshund charm and good spirit, the dog's presence in the fashion industry will prove to be far more than merely a passing fad.

In this outtake from international supermodel/actress Cindy Crawford's now famous Playboy Magazine photo-shoot with renound photographer Herb Ritts, we see her pet wire-haired dachshund "Gerbil," a gift from ex-husband Richard Gere, valiantly - though perhaps vainly - attempting to protect his mistress' modesty.

Finally, here we have famed San Francisco clothier Wilkes Bashford, haberdasher to "Da Mayor" Willie Brown himself, with his own black and tan long haired dachshund, the beloved Freddie.
