Welcome! Here's a chance to paint your own background. Using additive colors of light we take all colors to be made up of three primary lights (red, green, and blue) taken in varying amounts or intensities each. In a browser, each primary light/color may vary from 0 (least=none) to 255 (most,maximum). In other words, you assign each color points out of a possible 255. The larger the number you assign to a primary, the more part that particular primary plays in your final color. In addition, the more the total (intensity) of all taken together, the brighter the color hue you produce. (Conversely, if the numbers assigned don't add up to much, it will produce a very dark page.)

Some examples:

• If you want just Red, you assign the full amount (255) to Red and nothing to Green or Blue. Try it now: write '255' (without the quotes) in the Red box below and click the 'Set Color' button.
• For just Blue, you would assign 255 to Blue, and nothing to Green or Red. Try it now.
• For purple, you might blend Red and Blue, say 180 each, and no Green. Try it now: write '180' in the Red box and '180'in the Blue box and hit the 'Set Color' button.
• Want yellow? Mix Red and Green, with no Blue. Try 255 Red and 255 Green now.
• For a gray tone, mix equal amounts of each, say 120 each. Try it now: write '120' in each of the three color boxes and click the button.
• Since the total brightness is dependent on the total of the three numbers together, you can get a brighter gray with 190 each. Try it.

The same goes with any color; the greater the combined number, the brighter the whole page. You get the idea (I hope). Have fun playing around.
