Accutron Watch Repair
Most poorly running watches do not need parts replaced,
they just need a proper cleaning, adjustment and oiling.
My services include ultrasonic cleaning and lubrication
as part of a normal overhaul to prevent future problems.
FAQ:
1. HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR A COMPLETE OVERHAUL?
$225 is the total price, less any parts (usually none, maybe a back gasket)
2. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Turnaround time right now is 2 t 4 weeks depending
on the volumn of work, it varies.
3. WHAT KIND OF GUARANTY DO YOU OFFER?
I give a 1 year guaranty on all my work.
4. HOW SHOULD I SEND MY WATCH TO YOU?
I recommend UPS as they have free insurance (first $100) and it is very easy
to track, however US Mail is fine also.
5. HOW MUCH DO PARTS COST?
It depends on the part required. A new coil is $95, a tuning fork is $75
an index wheel is $55, a back gasket is $12, crystals are $18 and up.
6. WHAT DOES REPHASING MEAN?
Rephasing is the procedure used to set the index finger to run
at the low amplitude setting on the new 1.5 volt batteries.
7. WHAT INFO SHOULD I SEND WITH MY WATCH?
Please be sure to include a detailed note indicating
the type of problem you're having with your watch,
or that you're requesting cosmetic restoration if that's the case.
Also include your name, E-MAIL ADDRESS, mailing/shipping address,
a telephone number, (where we can reach you, should we have questions).
8. WILL THE NEW 1.5 VOLT BATTERY DAMAGE MY WATCH?
No, not at all. Here is a quote from Bulova.com
"Where can I find a battery for my old tuning fork Accutron watch?
Sears, Thrifty, Savon, Radio Shack etc.
The original mercury based button batteries (cells) for these watches
have become obsolete. The sale of mercury cells has been banned by law
in some states due to environmental hazards. Major battery manufacturers
have discontinued the production of these mercury based cells.
Silver oxide based watch cells, the type used in most of today's
quartz watches, are available in sizes which can be used as substitutes
for the most popular sizes of Accutron mercury cells.
There are, however, several important points which must be taken into consideration:
* Silver oxide cells are 1.5 volts, compared to mercury's 1.35 volts.
The use of this slightly higher voltage cell will not affect the performance
of a correctly adjusted Accutron. If the watch does not operate properly
with a 1.55 volt substitute, the fault is either an incorrect adjustment
of the movement, or worn parts in the movement."
USING A 1.5 V CELL WILL NOT CAUSE ANY DAMAGE TO THE MOVEMENT."
