I created this site in order for those of us who served with the 4th Battalion, 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam to have a place to come and share memories and experiences and to maybe reunite with friends of the past. The pictures here are those I took while serving in the mortar platoon as part of E-company from January 1967 through January 1968. Those of you who served in A, B, C or D companies and have pictures you would like me to add to this site, or those who have their own site and would like me to add a link, please contact me by E-mail to make arrangments. All pictures on the following pages were taken by me and are not to be used for any reason without my written permission. If you recognize anyone in these pictures that I have not identified, (it's been 42 years!) please feel free to E-mail me their names. I would appreciate any help in identifying these men. I welcome all comments.

I answered my country's call on May 16, 1966. I was inducted in Los Angeles and was sent to Ford Ord, California for processing. I spent three days at Fort Ord before being sent to Fort Riley, Kansas to become part of the 9th Infantry Division's 2nd brigade. I was assigned to A company, 4th Battalion, 47th Infantry for basic training. I stayed with this unit through basic and advanced infantry training and then was transferred to E company as part of the four deuce (4.2 inch) mortar platoon through basic and advanced unit training. In January of 1967 we were shipped out for Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. John Pope from Oakland, California. Upon arriving in Vietnam, we were first sent to Bear Cat for a few months before being sent to Dong Tam to become part of the Mobile Riverine Force in the Delta. I remained there until January 1968 at which time I completed my tour in Vietnam and was sent stateside. I completed my active duty at Fort Ord, Califonia and was discharged on May 15, 1968.
