Culting of Brands
Douglas Atkin; hardcover (June 2004) |

Purple

Seth Godin; hardcover (May 2003) |

The
End of Marketing As We Know It
Sergio Zyman; hardcover (June 1999)
This book was recommended to me by Shawna
Forsberg, my direct supervisor at ConAgra Foods. Sergio Zyman has
been an influential consultant to the organization and reading the book
has given me greater insight into the basis for our strategy: Selling
more product to more people more often in more places for more
margin. Sounds simple but obviously it is not or Zyman's book
would have been a dud not a hit. |

Lovemarks:
The Future Beyond Brands
Kevin Roberts; hardcover (April 2004)
This book was recommended to me by Christopher
Cunningham, former COO of Red Envelope, during a job interview. He
quoted that a Lovemark inspires "Loyalty Beyond Reason".
I use this term often now to describe what ConAgra Foods' brands inspire
among our loyalist customers. |

Harvard
Business Review on Marketing
HBS Press, Various Contributors; softcover (September 2001)
Picked this up just to refresh my memory and
review some thoughts on marketing when I joined Digital Insight.
I've been in product management for quite a while and thought an overall
marketing read would be worthwhile. Several good pieces in here as
originally published in Harvard Business Review including: "Brand
Report Card" by Kevin Keller and "How To Fight a Price
War" by Rao et al. |

Where The Suckers Moon: The Life and Death of an Advertising Campaign
Randall Rothenberg; paperback (November 1995)
Given to me by Michael Tchao, former VP of Customer
Experience at move.com. Excellent read. Funny and accurate.
The most realistic and entertaining look at an ad agency and agency-client
interaction that
I have ever seen. |
 |
The Art of Innovation
Tom Kelley; hardcover (January 16, 2001)
Also given to me by Michael Tchao, former VP of Customer Experience at
move.com. This one was a parting gift when move.com was shuttered, I
joined Homestore, and Michael moved on. Lots of neat ideas in here about
how to think about products, assemble teams, and inspire creativity. I
definitely recommend it. |
