| career profile
This is a profile based on a template used by a
now-defunct recruiter in San Francisco, Braintrust. I like the way it answers questions about me in three areas: on the job, outside of work, and ideal next step. I've included it on this site as a complement to the information included in my resume. (click here for resume)
ON THE JOB
My responsibility at
Digital Insight is leading the marketing team. The marketing team's goals
include: create and maintain a positive brand image for Digital
insight, increase awareness and understanding of our products and services among
financial institutions and investors, and drive adoption of our
products and services among end-users who are
customers or members of our financial institution clients.
My favorite part of the job is working with the talented team at Digital Insight.
My teammates tackle every challenge with aggressiveness,
enthusiasm, and intelligence.
An accomplishment I am especially proud of is moving the Digital Insight End
User Adoption program from concept to reality in late 2002. We grew the
program into a great success in 2003 and are on track to do even better in 2004.
OFF THE CLOCK
Outside of work I like to: play golf, read books and magazines, and
watch football and basketball on TV.
I also like discovering new things about the Los Angeles area and taking
daytrips to other interesting places in Southern California Traveling
further is fun too! I have visited destinations as varied as Nevis,
WI, Paris, Australia,
Maui, Las
Vegas, and Disneyworld.
Disneyworld and Epcot are my favorite places to go. The experience Disney creates in
its parks is second to none.
I wanted to be a top salesperson or marketing executive when I was in high school. My dad has been in sales
for most of his life. My focus hasn't really changed. I'm
in marketing today and manage both corporate and consumer marketing
efforts at Digital Insight.
I make an effort to practice at least a few putts on the carpet every day when
I get home from work. I also play 18 holes
on most weekends. My USGA handicap is continually improving but is still
pretty high at 26.0.
My hobbies are reading, golf, and music. I collected Grateful Dead ticket stubs while I was actively attending their concerts. I attended about 30 Grateful Dead concerts in total. My favorite possession is a set of tickets for the first series of shows at Boston Garden for the fall GD tour that was canceled because Jerry Garcia passed away. I had several sets of tickets for
the canceled shows that I sent to friends as gifts but kept one set for myself. The tickets are a true collectors item. I had them framed and included a
beautiful
elegy from Robert Hunter (a legendary collaborator with Jerry in writing GD songs) in the frame with the tickets.
My favorite band is, you guessed it, the grateful dead. My favorite book is either "The Prince" by Machiavelli or "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole. Amazon affiliate links to both books are included on my top ten list.
My talents are leadership, empathy, levelheadedness, creativity, ambition, and focus. An interesting fact is that I hold dual-citizenship in the US and Ireland. I actually hold a passport for both countries. With my Irish passport, I can
celebrate my heritage and also work anywhere in the EU trouble-free.
IDEAL NEXT STEP
My ideal next step will be to assume a vice president level marketing role.
I've demonstrated my ability to exceed expectations at the director level over
the past six years. I'd now like an executive level role which
recognizes my level of contribution, allows me to have continue running a
marketing organization and provides more opportunity for product development
input. I would also like to continue working for either a major consumer
website or a company that delivers it's products and services via interactive
channels.
Company size doesn't really matter. I have demonstrated my ability to succeed in both large and small companies. I can also succeed in a collaborative environment or a corporate environment that is heavy with politics. I prefer an organization that is driven by customer focused product development or by sales/business development.
Organizations driven by technology for technology's sake need not apply. I would like to
continue to be surrounded by smart people who challenge me to do an even better job and are passionate about their work and our company.
In the immediate future, I will continue extending Digital Insight's lead over the
competition and helping our company grow to the next level. In the distant future,
I will not be working and will be playing as much golf as possible!
