Iams Hit With Lawsuit Over Pet Food Claims San Francisco Chronicle 3-10-2001 Los Angeles - A pet owner has sued Iams pet food, claiming the advertising by the company overstates the nutritional value of its dog food. The suit seeks class-action status for consumers who bought Iams' Chunks, Eukanuba, Less Active and other products since April 1999. Iams is owned by Procter & Gamble Co., the largest U.S. maker of household products. P&G could not be immediately reached for comments. |

In the summer of 2000, discouraged with the different foods we had been feeding, we decided to research the subject, and after much time and energy spent, changed to Flint River Ranch dog food.
Our main reasons for this change were that we wanted to find a food that was "The Best" for our Vizslas. Something that was made of all human-grade ingredients, with no by-products, without toxic preservatives and without the controversial bioengineered corn, -or bioengineered anything!.
We wanted a food that had the right percentage of protein, fat and fiber for our active dogs, with minerals that were chelated, including Selenium, which we feel prevents early grayness and B vitamins for healthy skin. We wanted a food that was stool hardening, to help in intestinal and anal gland health.
Flint River kibble is always fresh, it does not have to sit on a shelf in the store for weeks or months before sold. It is baked fresh 3 times a week, you order directly from the factory and it is shipped at no cost by UPS, right to your front door. This we found very convenient, no more running to the pet store to pick up 40 lbs bags of dog food.
To make an order, call Flint River Ranch at ph # 1-(800)-354-6858. The first time you need to give them our number: GMA8 All new customers have to place their first order through a distributor of Flint River Ranch, and then will receive their own Flint River Ranch # for all future reordering.

"The Chicken meal and other meat sources used in FRR dog food does not contain poultry by-products or other by-products like chicken feet, chicken heads, duck heads, beaks, feathers, fish heads, hides, hoofs and intestines. There are no breakfast food by-products, corn, cottonseed, corn cobs, citrus pulp, soy beans, fillers, and no screening or other foreign materials such as noxious weeds, straw, hulls or chaff in the food. Most brands of dog food include some of these by-products and chemical preservatives. Even the "higher end" dog foods you get at the pet store mostly have by-products and also corn in them. The use of these low quality products and chemical preservatives may be associated with dry skin, allergic reactions, dental disease, poor health and degenerative organ dysfunction. The FRR formula is twice oven baked under carefully controlled conditions and temperatures - resulting in better nutrition, palatability and digestibility. Oven-baking changes hard to digest starches into easy to digest dextrins, which are readily absorbed into your dog's system. The secret to good nutrition is not how many nutrients are present in your dog's food, but rather, how available they are and how efficiently they can be utilized when digested. The good value is baked-in, not sprayed on. Because the kibble is high density, you will feed less. First you will notice the FRR 20 lbs bag is smaller than the store bought 20 lbs bag, but it is heavier. You need to feed smaller portions and you will notice a lower stool volume and less clean up. The Chicken and Lamb formula is made with rice and wheat. Ordinary dog foods are made with corn. Even the higher-end store bought foods that says e.g. Lamb & Rice are partly made up of corn. Look at the label, it will be the 2nd or 3rd ingredient! Rice and wheat are easier to digest than corn; therefore easier on your dogs system. Various selected parts of the wheat berry are used along with whole wheat flour as it is one of the most nutritionally balances grains. A combination of grains provides better nutrition than one grain. There is no sprayed-on additive or greasy coating to make the taste acceptable. Ordinary dog foods are extruded under high pressure and extreme temperatures and then sprayed with fat and other products in order to encourage dogs to eat.
