Mission
The Sacramento Deaf Services Library Foundation has been founded to establish a
library in the Sacramento, California, area to serve the needs of the local Deaf community,
families with deaf members, people who are late-deafened or hard-of-hearing,
sign language and interpreting students, and working interpreters.
This new library, when established, will place special emphasis on information
services and on stimulating interest and appreciation for reading and learning for all ages.
The service goals of the new Sacramento Deaf Services Library will be to:
Enhance literacy skills development of Deaf children and adults
Support parents in gathering information on deafness to make informed
decisions about their children’s lives
Provide library services through ASL, English, or communication mode of patron’s choice
Teach how to find and evaluate information
Provide ASL video materials with option to use library screening rooms
Offer lectures and programs in ASL
Provide internship opportunities for qualified candidates
Research program effectiveness and communicate to others in the
library and deaf education fields
