WHO WE ARE
OFFICERS 2001-2004

MEMBERSHIP
 

 The First Nations Council of Physician Assistants was founded in 1995, and is the first national Indian organization representing American Indian Physician Assistants.  The group has been granted Caucus status under the American Academy of Physician Assistants.  Membership is of diverse backgrounds with its majority being from various American Indian nations including native Alaskans and Hawaiians.

FNCPA PURPOSE

  • Serves as a strong national voice to advocate issues of common concern to American Indian Physician Assistants.
  • Provides American Indian recruitment into the Physician Assistant profession.
  • Promotes preventive medicine to improve the health status of native peoples. 
  • Fosters a better understanding among the non-Indian health providers regarding Indian health needs.
  • Secures and preserves a balance between traditional and western medicine.
  • Supports and encourages all other agencies and organizations, Indian and non-Indian, whose aims are to improve the health of Native Americans and/or work to increase Indian careers in the health fields.
