ARTIST STATEMENT
My art comes directly from my experience. Much of it is stored experience, dating from years ago, from childhood. Some from the here and now. Though not literally autobiographical, the works are an expression of impressions made by America on a maturing Black male in an urban environment. Most often the style is humorous. They are all a commentary, a tale. My concerns are to explore the relevance of ancient and religious myth to my life and community at the end of the 20th century, to comment on life today from a historical vantage.
