This is about an unofficial trip taken in October, 1995 by Mt. Vaca Radio
Club members to Canyonlands, Natural Bridges, Escalante, and Bryce Canyon,
Utah from Northern California. Participants were Les, W6TEE; Ed, KE6AFB,
with Sunny, KE6AFA, and her sister, Heidi; and Bill, N6MSI, with his dad,
Curly. All three vehicles were 4WD.
Our group caravaned with 2 Meter FM communications to Moab Utah. We stayed
there overnight before four wheeling over Elephant Hill into the Needles
District of Canyonlands National Park. (Photo right - Ed in his K5 Blazer
going up Elephant Hill followed by Bill in his CJ7 Jeep with Curly watching.)
It was the first time into Canyonlands for Ed, Sunny and Heidi. (Photo left

Canyonlands NP, Utah.) We saw the sights, hiked the hikes, and camped one
night in Devils Kitchen.
The next night was spent in Blanding Utah, followed by a tour of Natural
Bridges National Monument. (Photo right - Bill, Curly, Ed, and Heidi at
Natural Bridges NM, Utah.)
From there, we traveled to Escalante Utah via the Lake Powell ferry, and the
Burr Trail.
We had nice camping cabins in Escalante for three nights. (Photo left - Our
three cabins at Escalante, Utah.) We celebrated Sunny's birthday one night.
While staying there, we toured Hell's Backbone, the Anasasi Indian Village
State Park, Capitol Reef National Park, and the Hole in the Rock pioneer
trail. (Photo right - Hell's Backbone Bridge, near Escalante, Utah.)
(Photo left - The historic Hole in the Rock pioneer trail, dropping down to
the Colorado River, now Lake Powell, near Escalante, Utah.) Leaving
Escalante, we visited Bryce Canyon National Park and Cedar Breaks National
Monument on our way back to Northern California.
We'll have to repeat the Escalante part with a larger group and rent the cabins again. There is no shortage of things to see and do there.
The third vehicle, not previously identified, was my S10 Blazer.
