If you are looking for a more challenging, steep and longer ride, here are two favorite variations: Palo Alto to the Top of the Ridge and Back and Palo Alto to the Sea.

Tips:

Check out MetroSports, a running/triathlon shop. The staff is competent and friendly, even when you try on all the latest shoes, and then decide to stick with your favorite brand. Located at the Town & Country Shopping Plaza.

Garner's Pro Bike is also at the Town & Country Shopping Plaza; they have bike rentals if you are visiting.
