If you were not familiar with this area, you would easily recognize the "Big Dish" from Highway 280 near Palo Alto. This range of hills just west of Stanford University, has some paved and many dirt trails to explore. Most of the terrain is grasslands, with some trees. The best panoramic views of the Bay Area are along the ridge, near the large antenna.

From the Stanford Campus, you can
check out this family
ride, or an intermediate
bike ride.
Palo Alto is a cyclist's paradise;
many peninsula rides include some of the city's most popular biking roads on
their routes. Try this Palo
Alto easy or hard
ride to experience the area. If you are looking for a more challenging,
steep and longer ride, here are two favorite variations: Palo
Alto to the Top of the Ridge and Back and Palo Alto
to the Sea.
Tips:
Check out MetroSports, a running/triathlon shop. The
staff is competent and friendly, even when you try on all the latest shoes, and
then decide to stick with your favorite brand. Located at the Town &
Country Shopping Plaza.
Garner's
Pro Bike is also at the Town & Country Shopping Plaza; they have bike
rentals if you are visiting.
Palo Alto probably has the highest density of cycling
shops per square mile. Take the time and enjoy browsing through some of them.
